What to Know About Leaf Rubbing Art
Head outside this fall season and collect some leaves to try your hand at leaf rubbing art! Continue adding leaves to create a full picture, or cut out the leaves and use them for decoration.
This activity is perfect for kids of all ages. It’s also great for toddlers and preschoolers to practice fine-motor skills by rubbing the crayons.
When collecting leaves, look for leaves that have thick veins on the back of them. These will show more impressions when you rub with the crayon.
Supplies Needed:
- Leaves
- Crayons
- Paper
- Hole Punch and String or Twine (Optional)
How to Make Crayon Leaf Rubbing Art
- Head outside and collect leaves. Look for leaves with a lot of veins, as this is what you’ll be rubbing the crayon on.
- Remove any wrappers from your crayons, if needed. To save time, you can place the crayons in
a bowl of warm water, and the wrappers will slip off. - Flip the leaf so it’s vein-side up. Add a piece of paper on top and rub the crayon so that you are rubbing it on the side. This allows the color from the crayon to mostly hit the veins, making the impression clearer.
- Keep going until you fill the page with all different colors and leaves!
TRY THIS! Cut out your leaves, add a hole punch to them, and string them on some twine to create your own leaf garland!
